I remember the summer evening that I, Lelia, was sitting on my porch getting the latest event design request from a new couple inquiry. “Red roses. Black and white. Maybe some glitz. Think My Chemical Romance but wedding style.” Immediately I started seeing this darker classical love story come to life, and so the work began. 

Every once in a while, a couple comes through with just the right personality, energy and visionary vibe that push us wedding coordinators to transform into wedding PLANNERS. We offer an extension of our services to help you in event design, vendor research, and want to be with you in every single step of your planning. We are committed to you, ride or die, cuff it style. 

That’s what happened when I started working with Synethia and Eric. 

Pro-tip for wedding planning: begin with the end in mind. If you close your eyes, what are the must have elements that you see for your wedding day? Synethia wanted red roses and all of her guests in black and white. That old-timey feel eventually led us right to the courtyard at Linden Row Inn, where local legend has it that the enchanted garden is the one mentioned in Edgar Allen Poe’s poem “To Ellen.” Can you say “till death do we part” any clearer than Poe?

Once you sit down and define your ideal LOOK then you can hone in on the story that you want to tell through every element. For Synethia and Eric, we really wanted to carry a bit of gold glimmers throughout the day – the cutlery, the floral compotes, the votive candles, the decorative mirror at the welcome table. A favorite of ours was the presentation of individual cakes for each guest table presented on a gold cake stand with a glass dome. To top it off – they were delicious!!! 

This couple knew exactly what they needed after they got engaged. Synethia said “I asked a lot of my married friends what the one thing is they wish they had invested in while planning a wedding, everyone said a wedding planner! Lelia is amazing, she is funny, kind, understanding, patient and I have labeled her as my built in bestie!” 

They set their budget, we researched multiple vendors in each category (photographer, venue, caterer, baker, etc.), and then pulled together their mood board. We bring our expertise and networking skills to the table to help you decide exactly who is going to be on your vendor team!

Even with all of the foresight, things don’t always go according to plan. When we were six months into planning, Synethia and Eric actually took a break from meetings and vendor communication to take care of their family. We had switched venues, switched caterers, and then switched the wedding date entirely.

We took care of all of the emails on the backend and were ready to shift gears. That’s the benefit of placing your trust in your vendors; we are genuinely committed to you and willing to advocate for you! 

These changes can also pop up during the wedding day. Synethia and Eric were all about enjoying their day with their loved ones, so when it was suggested we skip the reception grand entrance and just move straight ahead to dinner, they were all for it! The beauty of having a wedding planner is that they can efficiently pivot a whole team to allow for these big timeline shifts! The guests didn’t even notice – we just kept on partying! 

And party we did! With Synethia’s father serving as DJ, we had so many freestyle memories to look back on. The couple ended the reception walking through a waterfall of bubbles through the main entrance of the Inn. 

“Who even are these people?!” Synethia said when we were looking back on her album. After spending holiday moments in Vogue designing her bouquet, commiserating on the influx of pollen, and wishing each other happy birthday over the Summer, it has been surreal to relive their wedding day.

Synethia also remembers: “My parents and guests loved her and raved about how nice and accommodating she was. Everyone’s favorite moment is when she hopped on the dance floor and shined! She is seriously the best and I am genuinely sad that our experience is over. If you want a seamless experience, fun, AND an organized planner then Lelia is the person!”
